››July 18, 2007 - 10,000 seems to be a theme on the latest tour - Tour Review

So, we're home after three grueling weeks on the road (shed a tear for us) and pretty much a show every night except for a couple where we drove non-stop to get to our shows. How was the tour? Pretty friggen awesome people - I must say that this was the best band we've had on a Moses tour and we played some amazing shows with some amazing bands. Technically it's not over yet, we have one more show at 10,000 Lakes this Thursday but really we are all back home and rested again.

Tour highlights? Oh yes, many of them. But here are some of my favs:

Opening for Herbie Hancock: We even got to speak with him and he's certified gentleman people. The best part is he checked out our set and shook all our hands as he was walking on to the stage to do his set and even did an impersonation of Paul our sax player! We we're all giggling like lil' girls as we shook his hand too...his band was also very very nice except the drummer who was the biggest dick I've ever met (but an amazing drummer).

Someone posted a video from our Herbie Hancock
opening performance as the SaskJazz - no way!
Montreal Jazz: Holy shit, this was our second time playing this festival but this time it really felt like people where there to see us. 10,000 people watched and danced and we had them the entire set! I think the big thing compared to 2004 was the fact that the band was tight as hell and our songs where more sophisticated! Someone even posted some videos on YouTube from the performance, so kewl. The girl in the yellow also made this one special - she was continually trying to distract everyone one in the band with classic girl on girl top40 dance moves...eventually I just stopped looking...lol. Damn you girl in Yellow!!!

Kelowna: The promoters told us there's not much of a music scene in Kelowna and how great it was to have us there. The opening band, Zen Media, was great! The bar was packed and I've never seen people go so crazy for music before - it's like they've never seen it! Thanks Kelowna, you guys we're a lot of fun and we promise to play quieter next time we're through ;-)

DJ Champion & his G-Strings: Wow, great band - go and check these guys out. We partied with Sebastian and Betty from Champion till the wee hours until the security gave us shit. Classic line from them too "Ok guys, the noise has to come down. That's the biggest problem...and if you're gonna smoke pot in the hotel please put a towel on the door" lol...the noise was the biggest problem??? Wow, I love Saskatoon! Especially a 5 star hotel that allows da pot...lol...classic

Broken Bottles and bugs at the fancy hotel: Imagine pulling up at a Marriott in downtown Calgary with a very dirty van plastered with prairie bugs, doesn't look so classy does it. Now imagine that while meeting Joshua Redman and his band and about 4 full beer bottles fall out of that same van and smash all over the front of the hotel. Moses Mayes was classy that night....reeeeeeal classy. At least the bottle of Rum didn't fall out. (PS - not drinking and driving here, just our rider being brought back to the hotel ;-)

Jazz Winnipeg: It's our annual gig and we always look forward to it cause it's our hometown. The best part was this gig fell in the middle of the tour instead of kicking it off. It was by far the best set we've done in the 7 years we've played this gig. I saw all the friends and family I haven't seen in a long, long time. We even did an encore that we where not suppose to play cause it was past the legal by-law end time for outdoor concerts. The crowd wanted it, what where we suppose to do? We played one more to surprised look on the security and sound crews face...lol...thanks everyone, it was a blast.

UrbanTerror: We found a new source for wasting time in the van for those 12 hour trips. And bless wireless connections. These two wonderful technologies provided a source of crack that we need for the long long drives...

Stressed out Soundman: Canmore hotel hosts the most stressed out soundman we've ever seen. Honestly, we stood there waiting patiently and quietly while he was setting up all the while yelping at us for no good reason other then him being sketched out. At one point Mark finally told then guy that "We're just standing here waiting man!!! You're the one freaking out, not us". Regardless, he finally got it together then proceeded to lecture me on everything bands do to piss him off - I then told him "Well that's great, we didn't do any of that and you still freaked out". He still persisted on what pisses him off...ahhh, the Canmore Hotel, always good times.

Running out of Gas: There's always time for a first and running out of gas on the I94 in Michigan was a first. When the van died Nathan was like "What the....damnit, we ran out of gas!!!" So here we are, pushing the van down the I94 when bang, he got it going again and drove/glided to the nearest exit to the BP. The rest of the band walked it to the BP - and trust me, you never see anyone walking on an Interstate...never. There were 5 of us walking it...lol.

Anyway, that's a quick flash back in time. Thanks to all the peeps that came to see us play and buying our records and merch (the gurls Underwear was the most popular btw). Thanks to all the bands we played with: Herbie Hancock, Gorilla Funk Monster, Sweet Soul Productions Champion & His G-Strings, Zen Media, Karmetech Underground, Novillero Soul Revue, the Hummers, Wassabi Collective, Andrew Spence and Yuka. And big thanks to the Blackdog Pub in Bayfield! You got our trumpet player seriously drunk! He had a horrible ride back to Winnipeg which was a gas to watch for 24 hours!

See you all in the fall when Moses hits a club tour :-)

›› June 13, 2007 - Sweaty Clubs and hot festival stages

It's been way to long since our last blog, sorry about that. As the Moses engine cooled down this spring so did our abilities to communicate with you all...again, sorry.

But summer is upon us and Moses now prepares for a quick but fulfilling tour across Canada and one part of the USA - we also performed last night for what would become the hottest gig ever. We're you there last night? Did you sweat a marathon out of your pores? Did you see the mist in the air of West End from the humidity in there? We did.

A broken AC + really old venue + TV lights + 200 people + dancing + 5 songs = one sweaty show. It's been very very humid in Winnipeg and having one of our storied venues with no AC, well, it makes for damn hot

performance. The show was fun though and despite the heat reeking havoc on on gear (we use waaay to many electronics) I think we pulled it off well. I must admit, the audiences cheer to great us on stage was overwhelming....what can I say, we missed you guys too! And so, now we wait to see what TV can do and hopefully the whole 'Live at the West End' TV show gets picked up and aired!

Speaking of live, there will be lots of that this summer - but posted right here in this blog is a clip of our Nov2007 performance in Toronto to wet your appetite! I hope this inspires your town to beat our new record for the hottest gig ever which took place on Tuesday June 12, 2007 at the West End Cultural Centre in Winnipeg...it had to 50c in there kids, I swear. There's a photo of me and my family on facebook (and some of the band playing) and my face is so eerily red and I looked completely zoned - I thought I was smiling for the camera (and the person took three photos too cause of the way I looked), but guess I wasn't. I was zoned and in awe of what just happened...

Again, Winnipeg, you guys are amazing...we can't wait to show everyone else next week when the tour starts.

›› February 21, 2007 - These cold cold days that will become warm again cause it has to cause we're all stuck inside and I don't see anyone anymore

I mean, I'm not gonna say that Winnipeg is the the place to be in the world in the winter. It's been so cold that plugging in the car is an everyday part of life. Did you know that some people have never seen cars with plugs in them? I have some friends from the Deep South that saw it for the first time - it was an awesome thing to see. Why? Cause onetime this guy from Arizona had all this material on the dash, it kinda looked like that fuzzy stuff on a PA system. He told me 'You need to have that there otherwise your dash will crack from the heat'. He then told me it's always about 43 Celsius (or what is that, 109 Fahrenheit?) in the summer. And I know that heat. I've felt it before in California and Nevada...that's what music is when you live in wintered Winnipeg. It's that burning you feel on your feat from the summer sands...

So, myself, Mark and Nathan have been writing away and trying all this new stuff. It's been another transition for us and we're really exploring some pretty progressive grooves in this freezer here. We also started revisiting some of our older music and thinking differently about that too. So we're gonna remix some old songs, in-house, all of us with you and put together a trimmed down version to keep parties going - gonna be a fun project. We've also gotten word will be on tour this summer, playing many jazz festival across the nation. And we're also going back to the 10,000 Lakes Festival! Winnipeg, Canada, USA!!!! Make sure to make the trip down for this wonderful festival on one of the best festival sites I've ever seen! We're also stoked to be doing a show with Toronto's God Made Me Funky. Keep checking back for news on that...

Ok, there's the spiel...so I wanted to also tell you to check out a great band called Mr.SomethingSomething. Hailing from Toronto these guys will make you move if your into bands like Fela Kuti, Antibalas and Montreal's Afrodizz. They we're just nominated for a Juno and they are a fantastic band, they came through Winnipeg about a year ago and I spun before them and everyone there was smiling the night to close.

On that note, make sure to listen to the radio, get ready for the playoffs and don't buy hemp jackets cause they don't last (trust me). -RPG

›› November 28, 2006 - An another tour ends...and what a tour it was...
I am convinced that funk/dance is on its way back in...after this tour I have no doubts...

So here I am, at my desk, back home in Winnipeg which is currently being blanketed in 15cm of snow...winter is finally here! It's amazing that we really had only one bad drive that entire tour - snow in the mountains is no fun kids...makes for long drives I tell ya'.

We just returned from the last part of our CD Release tour - we had the pleasure of slamming three main kingpins in central Canada: Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. And this has to be the best showing we've ever had in these cities - thanks to all of you for showing Moses the love!

Moses performs at the Reverb in Toronto with DJ Krafty Kuts & Kobayashi.
BlogToronto reviewed the show - read it here:

Click the logo

Montreal is getting to that point which is very exciting – we've had the best Canadian album reviews so far in this city. We performed at the famous Jello Bar on a Thursday night. Our friends at Global NTT helped promote the show and we played for die hard Moses fans as well as the normal crowd that hits the dance floor for the Thursday funk nights at Jello. It was great to see so many new faces diggin the sounds and it was our first show with Toronto's very own Browman too. That kid has some serious chops and some fine looking ladies even tipped the man some 20's after some of his solos...wow, never seen that before lol!!!! Our Fusion 3 people also showed up and we met a host of labels, musicians and MC's that all came out to check us out. Big up to the Global NTT people for growing the Moses crowd over the past few shows there.

Ottawa was also a great time - we hit the stage at Mavericks with our good friends Kobayashi (Montreal). Man these cats are sick - they have improved so much since we first played with them years ago and there's a reason why they are the pivotal funk-jazz band of their city. This was the second time we did this venue with them and Ottawa came out that night and danced and cheered to the very last song of the set for both acts. Ottawa, we say this often about every city, but your continued support and growing numbers every time we come out puts a smile on our faces.

Our last show was in Toronto at the intensely PA'd Reverb - this venue has the most serious rig I've ever heard and the best sound guy we've ever had the pleasure of working with on the road (and it's also a crazy ass dice…man Toronto bathrooms are just nasty…deadly nasty). It was a huge party, 700+ showed up for Moses, DJ Krafty Kuts (UK), Kobayashi and a wack of local DJ's. NuFunk put on one heck of a party and we slammed the people of Toronto with a banging set of non-stop funk and house. This was by far the most appreciative audience we've had in this town and wow Toronto, you guys blew us away. The night was perfect with almost all the cats that helped us with the new record coming out to see the band. Brownman killed it with his solos for his hometown crowd and set the tone for that night. After the set we sat back and enjoyed the cheering of the massive audience and then we all helped put out a fire in the back-alley so the party could keep going! Honestly, the backstage area was washed in smoke that we all thought was the smoke machines from the club. Then, someone in the greenroom said "I don't think that's a smoke machine...that's a fire!!!!). After locating the fire from the fire escape near the greenroom, a group of us starting pouring our drinks on it and then the ice tub that kept the refreshments cold went overboard to lay that thing down! And, once again we save the day and kept that party going…lol…well, we certainly felt like heroes (Maybe that fire was started by the hot party going on inside lol ;-).

To finish this blog off...just want to say that this was one great tour people! From Vancouver to Montreal...one of the best club tours we've had in our 6 six years doing this across Canada!

The new record is charting, reviews have been pretty good and everyone has been picking up copies at the shows...we can't wait to get back out there and I'm 100% sure it won't take long for that to happen.

Great seeing you all and we can't wait till the next one...

So here we are, resting once again in Calgary at my brother's place out in the burbs. Its been one hectic week of shows playing (or rather squeezing in) Saskatoon, Banff, Revelstoke, Nelson, Vancouver, Golden, Fernie, Banff and a last minute show in one of our favorite suburban bars here in Calgary: the Barking Frog. And then Thursday morning we performed on CITY TV's breakfast show...lol...after a night at the bar that just won't stop serving us drinks. Wow, ruff time getting to the studio for 8am! We met Ed the Sock and his crew who were there (super nice people! even swapped a new CD for his new DVD) and it was actually a lot of fun playing so tired and early in the morning -  the fashion show was great too. Yesterday, Friday that is, we performed three times here in Calgary. Starting the day at CJSW (great college station folks, love them!) we did four brand new songs on the radio, we then proceeded upstairs to McEwen Hall's the Empty Space at the U of C where we were blown away by the people packing this little room (shit people, that was the most bumping University show ever!). And finally, we wrapped it all up at the HiFi club with their resident dj's to slam a sold out show and finish the night off with some rum and hotdogs....wow Calgary, good times/ We have one more show in Edmonton tonight on this tour then back home to our beds (yay!) and then off to central Canada!

Overall, this tour (so far) has been a whirlwind ride of packed shows, late nights, long drives and interviews (thanks so much everyone for coming to the shows). Our new record comes out next week and radio and press should be (hopefully) exposing it for the masses soon! So far response has been great and lots of people have picked up the pre-copies at the shows - we're also in the midst of working with a company in the UK to get the record going there. It's been a crazy two weeks and unfortunately we've been stuck in a van for the better part of the day time. So, its been really hard to blog, get on the internet, communicate and all that - so sorry for the lack of updates.

It's been really cold and snowy here in the West, some nasty drives had to be done but all is well - we even avoided a very nasty rear end collision in Canmore...the adrenaline was awesome!!! LOL...nevertheless, looking forward to getting home and playing the CD release party for our hometown!

Thanks for checking in...oh, we posted a great video done for our Jazz Winnipeg performance from this summer here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjuntmvaLb0

We're very close to the end of this project...the album that is. Jamie and Adam have been working their asses off mixing this record in Toronto. I've been delegated as the band's opinion/voice and 3rd set of ears so I've spent the week critiquing mixes. The way it works is they finish a first draft mix and email me an MP3 of the mixdown. I then listen to it on various systems, about 3 different sets of headphones, low-end small speakers and then an extremely high-end stereo system I happen to have access to through my day job. I then make mix notes such as, "the mix could use more panning to give a wider stereo image" or "mix could use more overall low-end" or more specific things like "instrument x gets lost during this section". They then take another crack at the mix with those suggestions in mind. Sometimes my suggestions are right and get implemented, sometimes they're wrong get thrown out and sometimes the require more discussion and the dreaded phone call. : )

So after all this time pointing out flaws I'd like to point out some good stuff. Jamie and Adam are an amazing producing team. To find a producer and engineer that we've never met before and have them be on exactly the same wavelength as us is incredible. This is the first time we were able to hand over the producing duties fully and really take some direction. It became more of a collaboration, with Jamie helping with the song-writing and arranging and actually playing a lot of stuff on the record as well. Where these songs were when we started and where they are now is a huge difference and we've got these guys to thanks for that. Thanks guys!!

Finishing one hell of a Summer
There's something about going to central and eastern Canada that is very draining - long drives, fewer gigs, some not so great shows...but really maybe its the west spoiling us. Since my last blog we've hit up a ton more gigs east of home and one pretty damn cool festival in Minnesota called 10,000 Lakes. We had an amazing weekend there and the show was a great success despite our lack of fan base there. We saw Medeski, Martin and Wood (which Mark has blogged about on our myspace page) and met the guys from String Cheese Incident who checked out our set and spoke to us about the future - neato! Next was Toronto for the From the Peg Festival at the Harbour Front. Great venue, great staff and great vibe. We opened for the Duhks and had the pleasure of having four guests join us on stage including our old percussionist Scott Senior, current trumpet member Miron Rajsovolovich, and Phat Al and N.I.Gel. The event got us a lot of press and i must admit it it felt a little satisfying for people out here paying attention to what we're doing. Ottawa and Montreal were great and the peeps (especially ex-pat and summer visitors from Winnipeg in Montreal) checked the shows and stayed up late with us. The east, well...it was very hard. We played a couple shows to practically no one (we're still paying our dues I guess) but ended it off nicely at the Evolve Festival to a great audience (a first for us in the East!).

So where are we now? Well, we're in Toronto for our last show of the tour with our good friends the Pocket Dwellers - gonna be one hell of a time as we have not played with them in a couple years. This tour has been ultimately great - coast to coast this summer and not a moment has gone by where i haven't been smiling (well, a couple days I was a grump and an ass, but hey, we all can be under these circumstance when your tired). I have to say this has been by far the most enjoyable tour in my 7 years with this band and the best sounding the band has ever been! We've been fortunate to have some great players on board this tour and I really hope this incarnation of the band sticks around for a bit as we get this new record ready for release.

So many smiles, so many gracious hosts, dancers, joints, jams, rum, late nights, early to bed, long drives, making money, making no money, getting mad, laughing to hard, playing way to much civilization and video taping almost every moment (missed a lot of it actually, but got lots!). Now we head home for the first time in a long time to enjoy a 24hour sleep and then back to work...waaaaay too much happening in the moses world to take a vacation (and looking forward to it all). The break isn't long, we have more shows and music and touring coming up! You keep us all going and for that I thank you all!

The road is a nice place this summer

Wow, Western Canada has once again shown Moses the love, we've had an amazing run the last two and half weeks. We're finally on a lucrative day off in the mountains (laundry time people!) and now head to Banff for a nice two night stay. The tour has been amazing so far with packed clubs from Golden to Tofino. The Jazz fest shows in Vic and Vancouver we're off and the sun has been following our white van (and white skins) the entire way. Revelstoke Music Fest was banging, thanks to all the people that came to party with us! As always, the Island shows were packed and ready to dance to the Moses sound and the band has never sounded better. We have alot of new players on this tour and they've really pulled it together to make the band sound tight and keep the killer groove going for all the shows. Thanks to everyone who've responded with kind words to the new EP - our live vocal dj mix with the band has been going over well too. It's something we we're on the fence on but people have been digging the combination of DJ accapela mixes into the music - we hope one day to bring our guest vocalists on the road. We're almost done the Western portion of our summer Rock is So Hard Tour with shows in Banff, Canmore, Edmonton, Calgary and Regina left. Winnipeg, we've just added a date on July 20 back home at the Park Theatre on South Osborne, we hope you can make it to send us off on the rest of the trek. Other then that our only USA date will be at the 10,000 Lakes festival July 21 and we're super stoked to announce we'll be playing with the Duhks in Toronto at Harbour Front! Our good friend and percussionist Scott Senior may even grace the stage with us like old times!

BTW, gotta love the hospitality on the road, thank you all who've treated us so kindly with food, hugs, dance moves and other pleasures our hearts desire ;-)

That's it for now, hope all is well on your end of the earth!

Some background on the Rock It So Hard EP

Hey,
I thought I'd give some background to the Rock It So Hard EP. Lots changed for us this year. Up until the summer of 2005, we had pretty much the same members. And pretty much all the writing was done together jamming things out. I don't know what was up cosmic alignment but within a 4 or 5 month period we found ourselves down to only 3 members (Nathan, Grant and myself). Well if we wanted to keep going we had to change how we write. We had been using programming to create songs before this but we always considered it a side thing but now it's one of the main ways we write.

Some songs are written using programming with the intention of turning them into live band songs. There are quite a few songs on our upcoming full length that were written that way. There are some songs that we felt were better suited to stay programmed. Some of those are the songs on Rock It So Hard. They represent our interest in Electro, Hip Hop and R'nB ("Flow"...kind of turned in Trip Hop?). There was a 4th track called "The Place To Be" which is kind of an early 80's party rap track (think Kurtis Blow) but while we were working on it during the last few days before the deadline we discovered a major change in the groove of the whole song that we really loved. So we pulled it to develop it more. That song is gonna kill!
What to expect from Moses now? The sound of this EP is not a new direction for Moses Mayes, just another direction. With only 3 people at the helm of the band we feel we can branch out to many directions. So now you will see us release a wide variety of music. Our upcoming full length was recorded with a full live band. There are grooves you'll recognize as classic Moses type grooves and there will be grooves that you'll say "wow, I've never heard them do something like that before".

So I hope you like fresh because that's our new middle name...Moses "Fresh" Mayes lol that goes for the live show as well. oh boy do we have some treats for you this summer!

later, Mark

Hey people, sorry for the lateness of a new post on this blog - we've been pretty busy. The new record is done...well, the mixing and mastering is next but we wrapped up the last turntable parts last weekend in Toronto (where I also slammed the dance floor with a banging set of funk! thx Toronto). N.I.Gel has to drop his vocals on one track this week, then its done...lol, ok ok, one more thing to do. It sounds great! On the right are some photos of the last sessions in Winnipeg with the horns (Paul &
Miron), Scott Senior on percussion, the lovely Ariane & Sheri on vocals and finally myself. What can we say, I think we made a pretty great record...we're honestly super stoked to release this one - we have a
name nailed down and a track list, we'll get that too you soon. Look for it to be released this fall kids!

Right now were putting the last touches on our 'Rock it So Hard' EP - it heads for mastering this weekend and we expect to release it on June 18, 2006 to kick off our summer tour! There's four tracks and we'll, I love it too - I love all the music we've been making. Some peeps in Toronto got to preview some of the tracks as well as see one of them live - thx to
Phat Al for joining me on stage last weekend. Winnipeg, you get to the experience the live version with the band this summer at Jazz Festival, don't miss that one! More official news will role on this project shortly...

So, the band is in full rehearsals now for the tour - we have our old friend Vince Spilchuk joining us on this tour. Vince will be playing trumpet and hopefully some keys too, you might recognize him from the prairies own but now defunct Dalai Lamas (we're getting him back on the road ;-). We also have Nathan's bro on drums and he's a welcome addition cause he's one sick drummer. We actually had our first rehearsal with the band tonight and man, can't wait to play every night for you folks. As for the tour, more east dates will be rolling in this week, and no Toronto, we
have not forgotten you guys - shows tba really soon.....promise!

Anyway, back to work, much to prepare - its damn hot in the Peg tonight, need a me some beverage....goodnight!

RPG here folks...we are in the studio, day one, well...day two. I picked Jamie and Adam up at the YWG Airport at 7pm yesterday and was informed by the two that their crate of mics had not arrived at our fabulous airport. Needless to say, it was a bit stressful and put a damper on the hype of their arrival here - 15 grand of mics missing or lost...shiiiit. We also came to the realization that we had bought the wrong enclosures for our harddrives...lol...strike two. We then proceeded over to Sign Post Studios as our good friends at Private Ear Studios have been booted out of their space after 11 years there, leaving us short on our days we had with them for the recording in May. Looks like the second leg of the album will be done at this new studio we checked out. We then loaded the gear that night and started to set up the studio for the next seven days of recording.

-> photos of what's gone on so far are on the right.

Today the band started at about 10am, the mics arrived (yay!) and we also sorted the harddrive problem - so, everything going good today. We got the drum sounds down to our satisfaction and proceeded with other instruments - we're doing the bed tracks and dubs for the drums, guitar, bass and keys in this session. First two songs on the agenda, one called MMouse (don't ask!) which features Ariane Jean on vocals, was up first. At this point I had to leave for some family dinner and when I got back around 8pm, some bass dubs were in progress and....done.

Sounds amazing....we're now onto a song called 'Being', which again features Ariane on vocals....this one is a little more of challenge since we've had about three versions we developed, four vocalists doing the demos and countless remixes done coming up to this point. So, there were lots of ideas available which is both a good and bad thing - the problem being too much to choose from really.

Anyway, I'm sure we'll proceed into the night and then back again tomorrow in the AM...I'm actually sitting here in the control room while we figure out how to go about doing this track....enjoy the photos and video....get back to you soon.

So Paul Metcalfe, who will be playing saxophone on our upcoming album and on our tour this summer, had his end-of-year recital last night. I have to say that it has been a while since I was last so inspired by a live performance. With only a few weeks left before we start recording, things have begun to get a little stressed around the moses machine but after that show, April 15 can't come soon enough.

I'm always so amazed at how music can move me to different states of emotion. I mean this to include listening to music but even that does not compare to the emotions present while playing music. It's why I always look forward to hitting the road for a while. To exist for several weeks with the sole purpose of playing music, and of using that music to communicate with a larger audience... playing in your rehearsal space can be great but somehow that community of people at a performance just moves everything to another emotional level.

On another note, rehearsals have started for the side project that we have started. It's been absolutely amazing to get together to play these old funk/fusion covers that have part of the inspiration for our music all along. We've got "The Runaway" by The Blackbyrds, "Ain't It Funky Now" by Jimmy McGriff, "Kumquat Kids" by Eddie Henderson and "Swamp Rat" by Herbie Hancock just to name a few. We're still working on a name but hope to have some shows going in the next few weeks.

Well, that does it for now. I guess Mark will be up for the next blog.

hey! our last release Needle to the Groove comes out on Fusion3 tomorrow!!! For the first time ever, you can walk into any major and indie music store and order or buy our album - very, very cool! and from now on, any other release (two are on the way) can also be found in the stores...honestly, that's soooo cool from our end.

we're currently writing a song that is poised to host some lyrics from a friend, its like disco meets hiphop kinda thing, sounding good. we're also trying to arrange some moses shows here at home (Winnipeg), Regina and Saskatoon at the end of march or start of april. We're having a hard time deciding on where to play at home cause we want to do something different but it's so hard in the peg due to the lack of venues. anyway, that'll work itself out and we'll all get to see the band play its first show(s) since NYE06. also, some of the guys in the band are putting together a tres cool funk fusion cover band to add some more groove to this city, check that out for sure. that's it for now, to the right is nathan by our whiteboard where we put our ideas down in a visual so everyone can remember what we talk about..lol...i think we have a 75% success rate with the ideas on there...

thx for reading, we'll get the other guys up here soon too and the ability to comment on our blogs...its all taking a little time, but it will come shortly! Cheers,

hey all, this is our first blog ever here on moses mayes, we decided to drop the words section of our website and well...alot of other things. I've been working on this new site for about two weeks and I'm really happy its done (i hate firefox). I hope you all like it and let me know if there are any weird things happening cause I'm still working out the bugs. if you miss leaving us comments you should hit our myspace and leave us some kind words there...we'll have something up here soon for that.

So nowadays we are pretty busy in regards to writing and pre-producing the new record - its been a different approach cause we've lost some members during 2005. To the right are pictures from our jam space where myself, mark and nathan have been every night for the past two months. We're really having fun getting all these new songs together, I think we have about 9-11 that we like but still have a lot of work to do. it's been a transition since we don't have a complete band around all the time. our new players Julien (bass), Paul (sax) and Miron (trumpet) are all jazz school cats so its been a balance trying to get us all together to work out the music. So its been us three getting it together and then later working on the arrangements and especially horn lines - i must admit, i'm loving the way the stuff is sounding, especially the electro stuff we've been hitting.

as for the new album, we've got none other then Jamie Shields helping us produce it and we're gonna do it right here in Winnipeg at Private Ear Studios. looks like a week in april and then again in may will be the time, then off to toronto to mix the record. we're all getting anxious about it and hope we have it together enough. we did some tracks with our good friend sheri st.germain which sound brilliant!!! can't wait to here those tracks in a finished form. we're aiming to have it out by fall 06 - we don't have a name for it yet but we'll let you in on it when it appears.

we're also planning an ep for a summer release which features some our ol'skool electro vibes - something new to the moses sound. there's also a track featuring phat al of god made me funky and n.i.gel of the pocket dwellers!! killer fun tune and again, can't wait to get it out there.

other then that we are planning summer tours as we speak and we will make some appearances before then...blogs are fun
